The finalists for the Africa cup of nations are now known and the stage is set for whichever country will conquer Africa. But only managing 1 and 2 shots on target on the night respectively. Even the possession statistic was slightly in favour of the Senegalese, with 51% of the ball compared to 49% for Tunisia. The 90 minutes of football saw both teams fail to convert from the spot-kick. The first penalty in the 75th minutes was awarded to Tunisia and Senegal got theirs 6 minutes later and also failed to score. An unfortunate own goal in the 100th minute of the encounter gave Senegal the lead. They then were able to hold on till the referee blew the final whistle to go on to the final. These two clashed during the world cup qualifying phase where Nigeria qualified after impressive performances to top the group. This encounter was entirely different, it saw Algeria dominating possession and Nigeria looking to break on the counter. The breakthrough came in the form of another own goal by the impressive Troost-Ekong. He, unfortunately, was hit by Riyad Mahrez’s cross and the ball redirected into his own net. Nigeria was active in the second half and got their equaliser after VAR review of Etebo’s shot. Replays via VAR review showed Mandi blocked the shot illegally in the box with his hand. More drama was still to come with both teams unable to close out the match and supporters expecting the match to go to extra time. A free kick in the dying seconds of added time saw Riyad Mahrez convert with a sublime shot. Perhaps the goalkeeper should have done better with the wall in front of him.
