Liverpool wins, under 20 world cup knockout round starts…

Liverpool won their sixth UEFA champions league trophy on Saturday. Winning 2-0 against Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid. A Mohammed Salah penalty and a 97th-minute Divock Origi goal were enough to hand Jurgen Klopp’s men the title. The first trophy of his 4 years managerial stay at Liverpool and his first champions league trophy since he became a manager.

A Moussa Sissoko handball early in the first half handed Liverpool the initiative. The best start they could have hope for. Up stepped Mohammed Salah who did not fail to convert. Tottenham had plenty of chances to score and take the match. They were denied by a mixture of bad finishing and Allison becker’s mental awareness.

Mauricio Pochettino gambled on Harry Kane by starting him and dropping Lucas Moura. he was largely subdued due to the fact he last played in April. Tottenham did their best to come into the game but luck just wasn’t on their side. Even the introduction of Lucas Moura in the second half was not enough to this time. Divock Origi came on to score and ensure the trophy returns to Anfield.

Liverpool will be hoping to emulate Real Madrid who have won the trophy for the past three seasons or even better their record. Jurgen Klopp on the other hand will be hoping this kickstarts a successful stay at the Anfield dugout.
